The small size and fan-less operation of the LinkGear Series 100 Linux Platform provides a large choice of installed locations such as overhead ceilings and cramped wiring closets, some of which may not have electrical power or spare outlets available. In these cases the LG-PoE Power-over-Ethernet module provides the LinkGear Series 100 a cost-effective, alternative power source. The IEEE 802.3af compatible module safely converts the nominal 48V inline power on the Ethernet wiring to power the LinkGear-100 and peripherals. The LG-POE is also cost effective solution for new installations by avoiding the cost of electrical wiring. One CAT5 UTP cable provides data and power. The LG-PoE module also provides a highly scalable solution for battery-backed operation. A single UPS located in the network switch closet or central server room can provide backup power for multiple PoE devices installed throughout the premise.

The LG-POE is fully compatible to the IEEE 802.3af standard. Compliant features include

  • Power can be supplied on either the mode A (data) or mode B (spare) conductor sets
  • Insensitive to the polarity of the injected power source
  • Provides a 1500VAC isolation barrier
  • Classification Mode 0 reserves full power for peripherals
  • High voltage protection circuitry
  • Over-current limit and under-voltage lockout
  • Input voltage: 36-57VDC
  • Easy installation
  • Internal USB-IDE Bridge Adapter

The LinkGear USB-IDE bridge adapter provides the option to install an internal IDE hard drive or compact flash CF-ATA card for applications requiring larger storage. The adapter provides one 50-pin IDE connector for a 2.5 in. laptop hard drive or one Compact Flash CF-ATA socket for smaller storage requirements. The storage devices appear as USB SCSI devices in Linux.

    • Larger storage option
    • IDE and CF-ATA compatible
    • Protected and secure alternative to external USB storage attachment
    • Access through standard USB class storage device kernel driver
    • Expansion path for customer application
    • Ideal for caching applications such as web caching and SNMP logging
    • Ideal for RFID caching edge server

    Wireless mini PCI Kit

The wireless LAN card accessory kit provides IEEE 802.11abg (WiFi) connectivity. A compatible madwifi-ng device driver for Atheros chipsets is available. The kit includes

    • 802.11abg Atheros mini PCI card
    • RF cable assembly: U.FL/IPEX to Reverse Polarity SMA bulkhead connector
The WLAN card is configurable in station, access point or ad-hoc mode. More information about the madwifi-ng kernel driver can be found at madwifi.org

With the power and memory of the LinkGear-100, this is an ideal solution for wireless mesh networking, access points or bridges that require additonal features such as web proxies, radius servers and advanced packet filtering. A mesh router example application, using the click modular router is available for the LinkGear Series. It includes a patched kernel RPM and the click kernel module RPM.

This accessory kit is intended for OEM integrators only. It is the responsibility of the OEM integrator to meet all FCC requirements under FCC Part 15 regulations. The accessory kit does not include an antenna.
